Residents in parts of the UK have been receiving unsolicited pornographic DVDs in the post.
Action Fraud is aware of recent complaints from residents across the UK regarding unsolicited pornographic DVDs arriving in the post. These DVDs are personally addressed to householders, but have arrived out of the blue and were not ordered or requested in any way.
Recipients who load the DVD are asked on screen to text or call a premium rate phone number to unsubscribe, or to get a PIN to unlock the content. The call to the premium rate phone number costs on average about £10.
Action Fraud cannot take reports on this type of scam as it is NOT a fraud. The packaging states that it is a premium rate phone line that will cost £1.57 a minute to get the code to unencrypt the DVD.
People who receive these DVD’s are being advised to dispose of them and not call the premium rate telephone number. The police and Royal Mail are aware of the matter, and you may wish to take it up with your local Trading Standards office.
