Microsoft has released security update for Internet Explorer that closes a gap that allowed attackers to take complete control of a computer.
Microsoft has said users of its Windows XP operating system will also get the security update. Microsoft ended support for Windows XP earlier this month, ceasing to issue bug fixes or security updates for it.
The flaw affected Internet Explorer (IE) versions 6 to 11 and Microsoft said “limited, targeted attacks" had occurred. The company has now issued an update on Thursday to fix the bug.
Automatic updates
Microsoft said: “The majority of customers have automatic updates enabled and will not need to take any action because protections will be downloaded and installed automatically. If you’re unsure if you have automatic updates, or you haven’t enabled Automatic Update, now is the time.”
“For those manually updating, we strongly encourage you to apply this update as quickly as possible following the directions in the released security bulletin”.
