The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau is warning people to be aware of fraudsters approaching residents and taking possession of packages.
The scam occurs when fraudsters order goods online pretending to be a real customer and have them delivered to an address. These goods could consist of anything from clothing to technological devices such as iPads and mobile telephones.
When the products are despatched to a home address the occupant signs for the parcel/package taking possession of it.
Shortly afterwards the fraudster will approach the occupant at the home address in a high visibility jacket giving some air of authenticity to avoid detection, and take ownership of the parcel/package.
Action Fraud is reminding everyone to always ask for identification before letting anyone you don’t know approach, and do not sign for anything you have not ordered.
